Our practice isn’t designed for everyone — and that’s intentional.
We are a small, locally owned, independent eye care practice. We’re not part of a national chain and we don’t operate on volume. We’ve chosen a model that allows us to spend more time with patients, invest in advanced technology, and deliver a higher level of personalized care.
We’re a great fit for you if:
You value thorough, unhurried appointments and time with your doctor
You appreciate advanced diagnostic testing and preventive care
You want your eye care decisions made by a doctor — not an insurance company
You prefer working with a local business that’s invested in its community
You understand that high-quality, individualized care comes with additional fees beyond basic vision plan coverage
If supporting locally owned healthcare matters to you, we’d love to care for you and your family.
On the other hand, if your primary goal is finding the lowest-cost or fastest exam possible, a large discount chain may be a better option. Their model is built around speed and volume. Ours is built around relationships, quality, and long-term eye health.
Both approaches exist — we’re simply honest about which one we are.
Yes. We accept VSP and EyeMed for routine eye exams.
Most vision plans cover only a basic eye exam, typically with a copay around $10 (this is only an estimation, for an exact copay amount refer to your insurance benefits which you should have access to). Because we provide more comprehensive care and use advanced technology, additional services and fees often apply.
Vision plans are designed to cover only the most basic level of care.
We perform advanced retinal imaging and OCT on all patients age 21 and older because it allows us to detect eye disease earlier and more accurately. This testing is not typically covered by vision plans.
Retinal imaging & OCT fee: $39
We consider this testing standard of care and do not practice without it.
Many serious eye diseases begin silently — without pain, redness, or noticeable vision changes. By the time symptoms appear, damage may already be permanent.
That’s why we require advanced retinal imaging and OCT on all patients age 21 and older.
These technologies allow us to evaluate the health of the retina and optic nerve at a level that simply isn’t possible with a traditional exam alone. While looking into the eye with lenses is still important, it does not provide the same depth, precision, or documentation as modern imaging.
Retinal imaging and OCT allow us to identify early structural changes associated with conditions such as:
Glaucoma
Macular degeneration
Diabetic eye disease
Retinal thinning or swelling
Tumors or Cancer
In many cases, these changes occur long before a patient notices vision problems.
We routinely see patients who feel their vision is “fine,” yet retinal imaging reveals early signs of disease that would not have been visible otherwise.
For example, subtle optic nerve changes associated with early glaucoma can often be detected on OCT imaging before vision loss occurs. Catching these changes early allows for monitoring, early intervention, and better long-term outcomes — sometimes preventing vision loss altogether.
Without imaging, these changes may go unnoticed for years.
We don’t require retinal imaging to upsell or add unnecessary testing. We require it because:
It improves diagnostic accuracy
It allows earlier detection of disease
It creates a baseline to compare future changes
It protects your long-term vision
We consider this standard of care, not an add-on.
Because of this, we do not offer exams without retinal imaging. We are not willing to lower our clinical standards or compromise patient care.
Retinal imaging helps us care for your eyes proactively instead of reactively.
It allows us to look beyond “Can you see clearly today?” and focus on keeping your eyes healthy for decades to come.
That’s why we require it — and why we stand behind it.
Unless you are already under the care of a specialist where you are receiving imaging at those appointments.. Retinal imaging is a required part of our exam for patients 21 and older.
If you prefer an exam without advanced imaging, we may not be the right office for you. We are not willing to compromise patient care or lower our standards.
Yes. Contact lenses require additional testing, measurements, and evaluation and are not part of a routine exam for glasses. Even if the doctor does not change your prescription or the type of contact you are in, we are still monitoring for complications that can arise from contact lenses.
Contact lens fitting and evaluation fees typically range from $40–$100, depending on complexity. Any follow up visits related to your contact lenses are covered under this fee for 90 days. If you feel that the original contacts prescribed to you at your exam need adjustments this allows for that without additional charges at each visit.
This fee is separate from your vision plan exam copay and is dictated by your vision plan.
This is an annual fee and is charged every year if you wear contact lenses.
We accept Medicare and Tricare.
All other medical insurance plans are not accepted due to the administrative burden and frequent claim denials associated with routine medical eye care.
Medical eye visits such as pink eye, eye injuries, foreign bodies, or sudden vision issues are billed as self-pay.
Initial medical eye evaluation fees range from: $98-$150 depending on the complexity and diagnostic tools used during the evaluation.
Follow up visits will range from $35-$50 for each visit.
We will always review fees with you before and during your visit so there are no surprises.
No. Comprehensive dry eye care is not covered by insurance in a way that reflects the time, testing, and technology required.
Dry eye is a complex condition that requires in-depth evaluation and personalized treatment plans that go far beyond eye drops. Insurance models are not designed to support this level of care.
Yes, we offer vision therapy services.
Because vision therapy involves extensive evaluations, customized treatment plans, and ongoing care, it is not covered by insurance, and we are unable to accept insurance for these services.
Large chains are built on volume and speed.
Our practice is built around:
Longer appointments
Advanced technology
Personalized care
Preventive eye health
Strong doctor–patient relationships
We believe this approach leads to better outcomes and a better experience for our patients.
We are a great fit for patients who value quality over speed, prevention over shortcuts, and personalized care over one-size-fits-all exams.
If your primary goal is the lowest-cost or fastest exam possible, a discount chain may be a better fit. If you want detailed, high-quality eye care from a local practice that’s invested in your long-term eye health, we’d love to care for you.
You do not have to purchase glasses or contact lenses from us — that choice is always yours.
That said, we want to be transparent about how independent practices like ours work, especially in a world where vision plan reimbursements keep shrinking.
Most vision plans reimburse very little for the time, expertise, and technology required to deliver the level of care we provide. Because of that, our practice simply can’t survive on professional exam fees alone. A significant portion of what allows us to keep our doors open, invest in advanced equipment (like retinal imaging and OCT), pay a great team, and spend more time with patients is the revenue from eyewear and contact lenses.
So if you love the care you receive here, the best way to support a small, locally owned practice is to consider purchasing your glasses or contacts through us when you’re able. We stand behind what we dispense, we take precise measurements, we make sure everything fits and performs the way it should, and we’re here to help if anything needs adjusting.
We completely understand wanting high-quality care — just know that if every patient used us only for the exam and then bought their eyewear elsewhere, we wouldn’t be able to stay in business long-term.
Either way, we’re grateful you’re here, and we’ll always respect your choice.
Glasses can most certainly be a fashion accessory but they are also medical devices. The quality of the lenses, the accuracy of the measurements, and the way everything is fit and adjusted all matter.
That’s why we’ve chosen a quality-first approach when it comes to eyewear.
We use high-quality lenses from trusted manufacturers and do not offer low-grade or bargain lenses. Cheaper lenses often come with compromises — poorer optics, less durable coatings, increased glare, and reduced visual comfort.
Our lenses are:
Digitally surfaced for clearer, more precise vision
Designed to reduce glare and eye strain
More durable and resistant to scratches
Customized to your prescription, lifestyle, and visual needs
These lenses cost more because they perform better — especially for patients who spend long hours on screens or want the sharpest vision possible.
We intentionally curate our frame selection.
Rather than carrying hundreds of low-quality frames, we focus on well-made frames that fit properly, hold prescriptions accurately, and last.
Our frames are selected for:
Comfort and proper alignment
Long-term durability
Prescription compatibility
Adjustability and stability
You may find less expensive options online or at large retailers. What you won’t get there is expert fitting, precise measurements, ongoing adjustments, and accountability if something isn’t right.
Most vision plans provide an eyewear allowance, not full coverage.
That allowance can help offset the cost of glasses, but it typically does not cover high-end lenses, advanced coatings, or premium frames. Any difference is the patient’s responsibility.
We will always:
Explain your benefits clearly
Show you your options
Review pricing upfront
No surprises.
If price alone is the deciding factor, online retailers and discount chains will almost always be cheaper.
We don’t try to compete with them — because we’re offering something different.
We focus on:
Visual clarity
Comfort
Precision measurements
Professional fitting
Long-term satisfaction
Glasses made well the first time save you frustration, remakes, and headaches later.
If you want the cheapest glasses possible, we’re probably not the right place.
If you want glasses that:
Are comfortable all day
Provide clear, relaxed vision
Are properly measured, fitted, and adjusted
Are backed by a local practice that stands behind their work
We’d love to help you.
